Ellen Murray Meissinger

Ellen Murray Meissinger joined the Arizona State University's School of Art faculty in 1986 as professor of drawing and painting. She currently supervises one of the largest watercolor and water-based media art programs in the country. As a visual artist and scholar Professor Meissinger studies threats to the environment and ways to use perception and visual narrative to help increase public awareness. Her interdisciplinary artistic practice poses important questions related to critical environmental, social, economic, and human issues at the intersection of art, science, and sustainability. Water as important resource and natural force, and its role in determining structures, creating and destroying environments, and sustaining ecosystems is a major research interest. Professor Meissinger’s artworks have been exhibited in more than 100 international and national art exhibitions.
